Why Your Child’s Oral Health Is Important

Your child’s oral health changes as they grow up. Growing their baby teeth, losing them, and growing adult teeth is an important process, so ensuring their needs are met throughout these stages is essential.

While brushing and flossing are some of the most important ways your child can protect their teeth, it’s only one part of their oral health care routine. Regular oral health assessments combined with hygiene cleanings could help detect and address potential issues long before they cause more significant concerns.

Some of the most common issues children can face include cavities, gum disease, and tooth pulp infections. However, a proper oral health routine could reduce the risk of these issue developing.

Our Dedication to Keeping Your Child Comfortable

We completely understand the anxiety children face when they come to the dentist’s office, so we’ve made it our mission to provide a comfortable, calming experience from start to finish.

Technologies like Solea laser dentistry helps us reduce discomfort during treatments like fillings. Parents are welcome to stay with their children during appointments while we support a positive experience for your child!

How We Help Manage Your Child’s Oral Health

Comprehensive dental care is all about addressing potential concerns as early as possible.

While cavities and gum disease are some of the most common concerns for children, they may also develop issues that can easily go unnoticed. We look for these problems during your child’s routine dental checkups for early detection.

Services that we frequently provide to children include oral health assessments, hygiene care, fillings, and root canals. If your child experiences issues like a baby tooth wearing out its welcome, tooth grinding, or other oral health concerns, we can help with that, too!

Oral Assessments & Hygiene Care

Oral assessments and hygiene care are routine appointments we recommend having every 6 months to a year. We’ll look for early signs of issues like cavities and gum disease, and clean plaque and tartar buildup.

Please visit our Oral Assessments & Hygiene page for more information.

If we discover a cavity during your child’s oral assessment, we’ll book another appointment to perform a filling.

Fillings are routine treatments where we remove decay in your child’s teeth, and “fill” it with tooth-like material called amalgam. Filling cavities can stop bacteria from reaching your child’s tooth pulp and causing infection.

Please visit our Restorative Dental Care page for information about other restorative treatments we offer.

If a cavity develops for long enough, it can eventually reach the center of your child’s tooth and cause an infection. Tooth pulp is a collection of tissues and nerve endings, and when it’s infected, it can be quite painful.

During a pulpotomy (child root canal), we remove the infected pulp and fill it with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. We then cap the tooth with a crown.

Please visit our Root Canals page for more information on these services.
