What Is TMD?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jaw to the rest of your skull. This joint is a complex system of muscles, bones, and ligaments that all work together to help you talk, chew, yawn, and swallow.
However, injuries or teeth grinding can cause temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), leading to pain in and around the joint. TMD may also cause clicking, popping, or crunching sounds when you move your jaw.
In some cases, the issue might resolve on its own, but it could significantly affect your quality of life if it’s left untreated. If you think you have TMD, be sure to contact us for help today.
How We Can Help
At Hometown Dental, we can provide you with custom-made mouthguards to help address TMD symptoms. These mouthguards can alleviate pain while also preventing you from grinding your teeth while you sleep at night (which is an issue we call bruxism).
These mouthguards are made of acrylic material that absorb the wear and pressure of grinding, protecting your teeth and reducing the risk of experiencing chips and fractures.
