What Are Crowns & Bridges?
Crowns and bridges are restorative dental procedures designed to restore or replace damaged or missing teeth.
These artificial teeth simulate natural teeth using safe, strong materials like porcelain, resin, or metal alloys.
We develop crowns and bridges using unique scanning and printing technology from CEREC and SprintRay. These devices help us ensure your artificial teeth look and function just like the real thing.
Crowns and bridges can also be fixed to implants.
How Are They Different?
While crowns and bridges are made from similar materials and can help address similar dental problems, our team may recommend one over the other for several reasons. Our team can determine which option may be best for you when you come in for a consultation appointment.
With proper cleaning and care, bridges and crowns can last for 10 to 15 years.
Crowns
Crowns, also known as “caps,” help address issues affecting one specific tooth. They can also cap an implant. Crowns simulate natural teeth, so you can chew and drink as you would normally.
We may recommend a crown if:
- You have a damaged tooth
- You have a weak tooth
- A tooth with a root canal needs more protection
Bridges
Bridges can help replace 1 or more teeth. We usually cement a bridge in place over top of your natural teeth, which we might file down to fit the bridge’s abutments. Alternatively, we can also cement your bridge to an implant.
Like a crown, bridges should help you use your teeth naturally.
